The Application of Ethical Principles in Nursing

In modern medical practice, nurses and patients can be in a variety of forms of social interaction. As a consequence, in the current stable system, the course of such events should be built by the application of certain ethical principles. In particular, it can happen by respecting the patients personality, providing benefits, preventing the danger that may threaten them, and other specific actions.

The principle of autonomy is defined as the patients right to self-determination. This term is significant to me as a nurse because it is a fundamental aspect that I should be guided by, respecting the patients right to make decisions. The principle of Beneficence is expressed in actions aimed at providing benefits, which I can employ in the future, using the best care practices. The principle of Nonmaleficence is defined as the absence of harm (Last name, 2020). I can use it in the future by practicing safe techniques.

Whereas the double effect principle means that a morally acceptable action can produce a morally bad result, and it is ethically acceptable. In my future career, it applies to the aspect that I will have to take action with a morally bad effect if it is critical to the patients well-being. The principle of Confidentiality is defined as the need to save a patients data (Last name, 2020). I will practice it by not disclosing the patients confidential information. The principle of Justice means treating people equally and fairly, which I will apply to equal care. Finally, the principle of Paternalism means a limitation of freedom, but also cares for the welfare of a person and determines what it is. I can practice it by providing the patient with something that I think will benefit them if their ability to determine it is limited.

To summarize, the application of ethical principles while interacting with a patient is undoubtedly essential for me as a future nurse. It will help improve interaction with the patient through respect for their personality, provision of benefits, prevention of danger, and other actions. Simultaneously, the most important for me, as a nurse, is the principle of autonomy, because this is a fundamental aspect that I should be guided by.
