My Thoughts About The Psychology Career

Nowadays, more and more news stories about people committing suicide because of depression or psychological problems. The mental illness problem becomes more and more serious for all the countries. However, The mental illness problem becomes more and more serious for all the countries. However, there is a shortage of doctors in the field of psychotherapy. So, I am pursuing a degree in Psychology because I am passionate about the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting behavior in a given context.

First, I believe that nowadays many people have mental problems and if I can help them I will be very fulfilled. And, the psychology job outlooks very good recently. So, if I join in psychology major, it will give me many opportunities. Recently, due to increased demand for psychological services in schools, hospitals, mental health centers and social service agencies, it is expected that employment in clinical, counseling and school psychologists will increase. According 2018 US Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Handbook about job outlooks. Overall employment of psychologists is projected to grow 14 percent from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. Employment growth will vary by occupation. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, Psychologists, As people continue to seek the help of psychologists, the demand for clinical and counseling psychologists will increase. Psychologists are also needed to serve the aging of the population and to help people cope with physical and mental changes that occur with age.

Second, to start my psychology career, I need to get at least a masters degree (for school psychology) or a doctorate to practice in other specialties. Also, I need to get licensed to practice psychology, I need to earn the required degree, pass a state and/or national exam, and fulfill other licensing requirements. States may normally require me to do a two-year supervised internship. Internships in clinical and counseling psychology may need to be approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) because jobs in mental health sometimes require an APA-approved internship. However, it is difficult for psychology majors to get a good GPA, and students always complain that the course is difficult and boring. Students need at least two years of internship experience which have no pay in order to obtain a diploma. And also, psychologists face stress from a variety of sources. They need to deal with major life crises are just a few of the things that might put a drain on the emotions. Also, even the most hard-working psychology students need to learn topics including personality, social, cognitive and biological psychology in addition to the history of psychology. For many psychology major students, the introduction to psychology can be very tough. Often, students dont have exposure to psychology courses before attending college because many high schools dont offer these courses.

Third, as we all know, psychologists are among the top ten high-paying professions in the world and are recognized by many industries. In the field of psychology, I could be a psychiatrist, a industrial-Organizational Psychologist, or even the host of my own psychological clinic. The average salary of a psychologist with a masters degree is {$81,160} while those holding a PHD can earn up to {$113,200}. According to the 2018 US Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Handbook, the average Psychologist in the United States earns an average of $79,010 per year. What this number does not take into consideration is the highs and lows of salary differences among the different specialty areas of the field. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $43,800, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $129,250. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, Psychologists, on the Internet at https://www.bls.gov/ooh/life-physical-and-social-science/psychologists.htm Accessed October 03, 2019).

In the future, I envision that I will live in the Los Angeles, California. I will successfully open a psychological clinic in the Long Beach and have stable customers and income. Living in Las Vegas is alluring, with its world-class nightlife, bountiful outdoor recreation and an average of 330 sunny days per year. According Investopedia.com 2019 report How Much Money Do You Need to Live in Las Vegas?, living and working in Los Angeles, where the cost of living is {$40,000 to $50,000}. My dream life is that I can have my own schedule. I will travel around the world with my love. And enjoy different cultures in other countries.
