My Future Life: Personal Narrative Essay

My entire life I have always been eager to know what the future has in store for me. Specifically, I have always imagined what my dream partner might be like. I would sit for hours and visualize him: What would this person look and smell like? Where would we go on dates? What would our wedding look like? I knew what the movies represented love should be, but I found trouble trying to relate. As I reflect and fantasize about my future life and the person I see myself with for the rest of my life, I cannot help but begin to smile. I smile because I envision this person to have an amazing personality, have the ability to see the real me, and have a personable and positive demeanor.

I would want my future partner to have an amazing personality. A persons personality–unlike looks or physical appearances– does not change and is usually something that differentiates them from the rest of the world. For instance, I envision him to be hilarious and always make me laugh even if I am having a terrible day. Laughter is a part of the universal human vocabulary. All members of the human species understand it. I love laughing because it allows me to be distracted from things that bother or stress me out. In addition to being hilarious, I envision my future spouse going out of their way, to do sweet things for me. For example, I would want him to leave little love notes in places I would not expect them to be. Places like in my bookbag or lunchbox, mailbox, or even desk. Reading little reminders that someone loves me and cares about me is not only an immediate day booster, but a confidence booster as well. Finding opportunities for him to go out of his way to do things for me, shows me how much he really loves and cherishes me, and would prompt me to do the same.

Aside from having an amazing personality, I want my dream partner to have the ability to see the real me. For example, I want my future spouse to be able to see my flaws and still love me in spite of them. One of my biggest flaws is my lack of trust in people. Because I have been hurt so many times by people, I have a hard time believing in the good in peoples hearts. I would want my future partner to see examples of this and not think I am cold-hearted or do not care about people, because I do. Also, I want them to be able to sense whatever mood I am in. I sometimes feel like I have to fake a smile because I do not want to bother my friends with my emotions, but I was my future spouse to be able to know moments I am feeling sad or anxious and do everything in their power to make me feel better.

Furthermore, I want my future spouse to have a very personable and positive demeanor. I see my future spouse as personable by how empathetic he is to me and other people. Many people confuse empathy with sympathy. Sympathy is feeling sorry for another person, whereas empathy is putting yourself in another persons shoes and really trying to identify with his or her experience. When someone doesnt show empathy for others, it doesnt make them feel good. Highly empathetic people show genuine concern for everyone. Moreover, I want my future spouse to be positive. A positive person is so nice to be around. No one likes to be around a Debbie Downer. When someone is always complaining or simply exudes negative energy, most people try to avoid that person. Personable people find humor in life. They are happy or at least they give off the impression they are happy. They talk about the good stuff going on in their lives, not the negativity. They keep it happy. After all, having someone who has a personable and positive demeanor in your life, can help influence you to also look at life more positively; and even help you to feel more optimistic in your day-to-day life.

In conclusion, my wish for Cupid would be to marry my ideal and perfect man. Although the perfect person does not exist, my perfect man would be someone who has an amazing personality, someone who has the ability to see the real me, and someone who has a personable and positive demeanor. These qualities dont just make for a good husband, but a good person overall. It is easy to have a healthy relationship with someone who believes in you and treats you the way you want to be treated. Meeting my perfect man has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and it is something that I will not take for granted. Moreover, because I have waited so long, these qualities are nonnegotiable and not something I am willing to compromise on. Also, I want to not only find someone with these qualities but someone who can help me grow into someone with these qualities. A marital relationship should be a symbiotic relationship in terms of both parties’ Give and Take, meaning both people should be able to grow in the relationship. One of my biggest fears is being in a relationship with someone who doesnt respect me for who I am or being with someone who I feel is keeping me static, or not moving in life. All in all, my wish for Cupid would be to meet someone with an amazing personality, someone who sees the real me, and someone who has a personable and positive demeanor toward life and have them sweep me off of my feet.
