Persuasive Essay on Bullying and How to Stop It

Bullying is one of the most common issues these days and had been faced by almost every individual. It is a type of forceful behavior in which someone intentionally and repeatedly causes injury or annoyance to another person. It can happen in any place and can take the form of physical contact, verbal abuse, or online. No matter what form of bullying, but the result can be the same, serious trouble and torment for the individual bullied.

Bullying can lead to depression, anxiety, and even suicide in youths. Bullied students are more likely to be socially anxious as adults, have lower self-esteem, and require more mental health care. Bullying has the potential to permanently harm a person. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me, says the proverb, but words do hurt and scar, sometimes irreversibly.

Bullying must come to an end. Together with the help and cooperation of everyone involved and assistance of the government, it can be done. For example, in 2013, due to the cooperation of the society and the government in the Philippines was passed the Anti-Bullying Act. It requires schools from kindergarten to high school to implement measures to prevent bullying.

Aside from that, the parents of the victim should take it seriously and encourage their child to talk about it. Parents should not blame the child for being bullied and remain calm and supportive enough for the child to be comfortable enough to talk about it. They should also teach the child how to respond to being bullied assertively without getting upset after trying to ask details about the bully and the ones involved, if any, and to recognize that they need to seek professional help to receive treatment if necessary.

Parents of the bully should take the time to ask the child to share the details of the actions they have been accused of and listen to their side of what happened, holding the child fully and fairly accountable for their actions. They must take the time to bond with them and properly monitor and supervise the child in the future. Bullies who exhibit sufficient symptoms to qualify for a mental health diagnosis should receive treatment accordingly.

Everyone in the community also may work together to convey a united message against bullying; many organizations organize events and prevention programs on how to deal with it, specifically in schools where it occurs. Anti-bullying programs that are successful enhance playground monitoring, give proper penalties for bullying, and educate children who are bystanders to bullying how to stand up for victims so that bullying action can be socially stigmatized rather than helpful.

Bullying is a serious problem today, and we must do everything we can to stop it.
